The Irish government has started an subsidy programme with the aim to ensure the highest possible dairy calf welfare. This because the strong increase of the number of new born calves this calving season. The investments that can be subsidized are calf feeding systems such as computerized calf feeders, milk carts with mixer and teat feeders, milk heaters, forage racks, troughs, feed barriers and pen dividers. For investments between 1000 and 7500 euro 40 percent subsidies are available.
